eBay GetPriceResearch Query with Live Auctions Help
This page describes how to use the eBay Combo
Research Utility. This utility provides an interface to the free
Advanced
GetPriceResearch call along with live auction information from eBay. This will let you research the current prices of items and view live auctions at the same time.
This interface is a shared resource with only 1000 searches per month.
Search counts are limited so please do not overuse the script. There is
support to limit the number of searches and you may sometimes encounter an
error message. In that case, simply search again tomorrow.
Current Input Includes:
- Query: A set of search keywords. The interface does accept
advanced eBay syntax (such as, -foo to exclude any listings with
foo in the title). The pricing information will not use the advanced syntax though due to constraints in the call.
- Min Price, Max Price: Price range specification. This is useful
for limiting search to specific items. For instance, if you are looking for
used Canon 5D prices (which usually runs around $1100), limit the price range
to $500 to $1500 to exclude the 5D Mark II. Keep in mind that these price limits will apply to live auction listings too.
Current Output Includes:
- Total Items: The total number of items sold in the past 30 days
is listed first.
- Pseudo-Histogram: A histogram of recent prices is simulated based
on the day by day min/max/average price information returned from the call.
This histogram is most accurate when at most three listings are returned per
day, typically for less than 100 items.
- Median, Average, Range, Quartiles: Basic statistics of the prices
over that time period are returned. The average and range are accurate, the
median and 25th/75th quartiles are simulated (most accurate for < 100 items).
The median, in particular, gives a good estimate of the going rate for an item.
- Live Auctions: These are the current auctions listed RIGHT NOW on eBay. Click through to see the actual auction pages.
Have fun with it! Feel free to experiment!
